Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: Your Ultimate Guide to Disney’s Most Magical Halloween Celebration
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is one of our absolute favorite events at Walt Disney World. Maybe it’s the chance to dress up together as a family…because we love a good group costume. As the kids get older, it’s harder to pull off those themed looks at home, so Disney gives us the perfect opportunity to keep the tradition alive. Whether it's the food, the fun, or just the fact that October is one of the best months of the year, this event never disappoints. Each year brings something new, but you can always count on the classic favorites. We're heading back in 2025, and this blog will serve as your complete overview. Discounts
Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members sometimes receive discounts on select August and September party nights, usually around $10 off.
Shades of Green offers slightly discounted tickets for military families when purchasing through their ticket office.
Authorized resellers like Undercover Tourist may occasionally offer a small discount, but availability is limited and popular dates disappear quickly.
Pro Tip: Skip the Day Ticket
MNSSHP tickets allow you to enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4:00 p.m., and the party officially runs from 7:00 p.m. to midnight, with many guests lingering until about 1:00 a.m.. Because of that long event window, most families choose to skip a regular park ticket that day, rest at the resort pool, and save their energy for the party. Buying both a day ticket and a party ticket on the same day is usually not worth the extra cost and can lead to burnout before the real fun even begins.
Party Arrival & Check-In Tips
If you have a Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party ticket, you do not need a standard park ticket or reservation that day. Party guests may enter Magic Kingdom starting at 4:00 p.m. through a special event entrance, usually located at the far-right side of the main turnstiles. Cast Members will direct you and hold signs pointing to the correct entrance for party guests. As soon as you enter, you will receive a party wristband from a Cast Member. You must wear this wristband all night because it tells Cast Members you are allowed to stay after regular park closing.
If you are already inside Magic Kingdom earlier in the day, such as coming in with an Annual Pass, you cannot stay unless you receive a party wristband. Look for alternate check-in locations which are marked by large party signs throughout the park, usually at Liberty Square, Fantasyland and the Tomorrowland entrance area. Stop by one of these locations before the party begins to receive your wristband and trick-or-treat bag.
We recommend not visiting another park earlier in the day, especially with younger children. Instead, spend time at the pool, relax at your resort, eat an early dinner, get into costume, and arrive at Magic Kingdom around 3:15 p.m. to be ready for the 4:00 p.m. entry.
Once inside, head toward Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A. A large party truck with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party signage will point you to the bypass lane on the right-hand side, where Cast Members hand out the official “Let’s Boo This” treat bags and the party map. Do not skip the party map, it is your guide for finding every trick-or-treat trail, exclusive food item, character meet-and-greet and entertainment time during the party.
Trick-or-Treating Throughout the Park
One of the biggest hits of the night, especially for kids, is the trick-or-treating trail that winds throughout Magic Kingdom. These are not just one or two stops. This is full haul-level candy collecting. Each treat trail is marked by large glowing signs and Cast Members hand out candy like it is their mission to make sure your bag is bursting. You receive a small official trick-or-treat bag when you check in at either the Main Street bypass or at check in locations, but I always recommend bringing your own. I use custom Halloween-themed bags that are much larger, and I carry gallon-sized Ziploc bags so I can dump overflow before little hands get tired.
Treat trail locations are listed on the printed party map and inside the My Disney Experience app, so grab both to make sure you do not miss the best stops. Some of the most fun and interactive treat trails include Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor where characters chat with guests walking through the theater and the Villains trail inside Princess Fairytale Hall which is filled with eerie lighting, themed music and two surprise villains. Pro-tip: Liberty Square and Tomorrowland often have shorter candy lines but are equally generous.
Disney also makes the night incredibly inclusive for guests with allergies. Teal bags are given out to guest with allergys and they can receive tokens at every treat station and can be redeemed for safe goodies at the Allergy-Friendly Centers located at Liberty Square Ticket Office and Town Square Theater. You do not have to collect the tokens first if you would rather skip the trail. You can go directly to the centers and pick from the allergy-friendly treats there. It is a lifesaver for families navigating food sensitivities and another reason I appreciate that Disney thinks of everyone.
Exclusive Entertainment You Can Only See at the Party
The entertainment at MNSSHP is reason enough to go, Disney pulls out all the show-stopping magic this night and these offerings do not happen during day guests hours.
Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade
Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade — 8:15 p.m. & 11:15 p.m.
The moment those first clopping hooves signal the Headless Horseman riding down Main Street, I get chills every single year. Between the Haunted Mansion grave diggers scraping their shovels, pirates tossing treasure, and Clarabelle Cow throwing candy corn, this parade is both hilarious and beautifully spooky. We always choose the second parade because it is less crowded and our kiddos are wired enough at that point to stay awake.
Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular (Castle Stage)
August 15 – September 26: 9:05 p.m., 10:35 p.m., 12:00 a.m.
September 28 – October 31: 7:35 p.m., 9:05 p.m., 10:35 p.m., 12:00 a.m.
If you love the Sanderson Sisters, grab a spot in front of Cinderella Castle. This show is over-the-top campy and loaded with villains like Oogie Boogie and Dr. Facilier performing musical numbers. We usually squeeze in the earlier show when we go in October and save the late-night one for when the crowds thin out.
Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular Fireworks — 10:00 p.m.
Hosted by Jack Skellington (yes, a life-sized puppet appears on stage), this fireworks show uses castle projections, lasers, and sweet Halloween storytelling. I tear up every time — there is something about hearing spooky lullabies while holding sticky, candy-covered little hands that gets me in my feelings.
Dance Parties — A Must-Do for My Family
My kids absolutely love the dance parties at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so this is something we never miss. It gives them space to burn energy, dance in their costumes, and enjoy a totally different kind of party magic than rides or candy trails — and it’s where some of our best memories come from.
Dance Party Line-Up Over the Years:
2022: Zombies 3 Dance Party — Tomorrowland
2023: DescenDANCE Party — Tomorrowland (inspired by Descendants)
2024: Disney Junior Jam — Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café (inside, toddler-friendly with Disney Junior characters like Vampirina and Timon)
2025: Zom-Beatz Bash — Rockettower Plaza Stage (inspired by Zombies and Descendants)
The Disney Junior Jam deserves a special mention if you have little ones. It is indoors, air-conditioned, and features characters from shows like Vampirina, Doc McStuffins, and T.O.T.S. — making it a perfect reset spot before jumping back into character lines, candy collecting, or shows.
Character Meet-and-Greets — One of Our Favorite MNSSHP Traditions
One of the absolute best parts of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is meeting rare characters and seeing classic favorites in their Halloween costumes. This has become our favorite activity of the entire night and we have skipped rides just to soak it all in.
Important tip: The My Disney Experience (MDE) app does not flip over to party mode until around 6:30 to 7:00 p.m., which means character locations will not appear in the app before then. It helps tremendously to know where your top characters are usually located ahead of time so you can move with purpose once the party begins.
Here is where you can typically find them:
Main Street, U.S.A.
Mickey and Minnie meet together for the first time in their Halloween costumes at Town Square Theater — this is a must-do for family photo ops.
Jack Skellington and Sally in the same location — Guests can begin queuing as early as 4:00 p.m., and greetings typically begin around 4:30 p.m. lines grow very quickly
Adventureland
Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, Genie, and Abu at the Agrabah Marketplace — a fun, magical encounter.
Captain Jack Sparrow roams or greets around Caribbean Plaza — perfect for pirate-loving families.
Frontierland
Shaker, Wendell, and Big Al (from the Country Bears) roam casually — you may just bump into them while grabbing treats.
Fantasyland
Alice, Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum outside the Mad Tea Party — whimsical and photo-worthy.
Anastasia, Drizella, and Lady Tremaine scattered throughout Fantasyland — classic Disney villain charm.
Ariel and Prince Eric near the Under the Sea attraction.
Belle meets near the Enchanted Tales with Belle queue — fairytale elegance personified.
Gaston flexes near Gaston’s Tavern — bold, brash fun.
Pluto does meet-and-greets at the entrance of Storybook Circus.
Daisy and Goofy in Halloween attire at Pete’s Silly Sideshow — adorable and quirky.
Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger dressed for Halloween at Pooh’s Thotful Spot — so sweet my heart melts just thinking about it.
Tomorrowland
Stitch in his rock ‘n’ roll costume across from Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor — playful and perfect for fans of cosmic mischief.
Surprise & Roaming Characters
Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled — you might stumble across:
Haunted Mansion spirits like the Hitchhiking Ghosts roaming Frontierland balconies or Diamond Horseshoe Stage.
Villains like Mother Gothel or Cruella near Market Street, or Maleficent and the Evil Queen near Princess Fairytale Hall.
Haunted Mansion’s spooky residents — including Miss Carlotta, Madam Renatta, and Broome — lurking in the graveyard.
Halloween Merchandise — Party Exclusive Must-Haves
One of the most exciting parts of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the exclusive merchandise you can only buy during the event. These items are not available during regular park hours and often sell out fast — especially closer to Halloween. If you love collecting party keepsakes, make The Emporium on Main Street your first stop when the party begins.
Here are some of the standout party-only items for 2025:
Official MNSSHP Spirit Jersey featuring Mickey and Minnie in spooky costumes with candy-corn style lettering
Glow-in-the-dark graveyard T-shirt inspired by the Haunted Mansion
Loungefly mini backpack with pumpkin accents and a matching coin purse
Limited-edition party pin set including Jack Skellington, the Headless Horseman, and Mickey in costume
Party-exclusive MagicBand+ that lights up and reacts to parade floats and fireworks
Hocus Pocus-inspired sipper and tumbler — perfect for festive party drinks
“Boo-to-You” picture frame to display your favorite party photo back at home
My advice is always the same: shop early in the night, especially if you want specific sizes or items. We usually pop into the shop right when the party starts or immediately after the 8:15 p.m. Boo-to-You Parade, because merchandise tends to go quickly once the crowds shift toward the second parade at 11:15 p.m.
Rides & Attractions at the Party
While rides are not the main reason most people attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, they definitely can be a nice perk — especially if you are hoping to enjoy shorter wait times than you would during a normal park day. If rides are important to your family, use the 4:00 p.m. early entry window to check a few favorites off your list before the party officially starts at 7:00 p.m.
By the end of the night (after 10:30 p.m.), many rides are nearly walk-on thanks to limited capacity and guests focusing on parades, fireworks, characters and candy. During the August 15, 2025 party, the park-wide average wait time was just 15 minutes, and the longest wait was 19 minutes — so if a ride is posted at 20 minutes or more, skip it and circle back later.
Rides Typically Open (by Land)
Adventureland: Pirates of the Caribbean, Magic Carpets of Aladdin
Frontierland: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Liberty Square: Haunted Mansion
Fantasyland: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, it’s a small world, Winnie the Pooh, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Mad Tea Party
Storybook Circus: Dumbo the Flying Elephant, The Barnstormer
Tomorrowland: Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Tomorrowland Speedway, Astro Orbiter
Note: Jungle Cruise and Carousel of Progress are usually closed during party hours.
Special Halloween Ride Overlays
Space Mountain (Tomorrowland): Pitch-black track with eerie Halloween music
Haunted Mansion (Liberty Square): Ghostly performers outside entertaining guests in the queue
Mad Tea Party (Fantasyland): Halloween-themed lighting and music
My Honest Take on Riding During MNSSHP
We personally are least interested in doing rides during the party. The overlays are fun — Space Mountain is completely dark, Pirates has live pirates, Haunted Mansion has live “ghosts,” and the Mad Tea Party has spooky lighting — but it is not like Disneyland where they fully retheme Haunted Mansion for Halloween. So if your priority is meeting rare characters like Jack and Sally, snagging specialty treats, or securing a perfect parade spot, rides may not be worth your party time.
On the other hand, if your goal is shorter waits, this is one of the best times to ride major attractions. You simply have to decide whether you are coming to enjoy all that the Halloween party offers or if your goal is to ride as many attractions as possible with minimal waits.
Timing Your Ride Priorities
If rides are important to you, aim for these two prime windows:
Early evening (4 to 6 p.m.) — take advantage of low wait times as many party guests are still arriving or queuing for entertainment
Late party (after 10:30 or 11 p.m.) — this is when most guests are watching the final fireworks or parades, and lines drop dramatically
A good rule of thumb: If a ride starts showing a wait time of 20 minutes or more, note it but come back later—post-9 p.m. waits on major rides are frequently under 5 minutes
Quick Strategy Tip
If rides aren’t your main reason for attending MNSSHP and you're there for trick-or-treating, costumes, fireworks, and characters treat Tron and Mine Train as bonuses. If the posted wait is higher than those mid-range averages, circle back later. By the late-night window, most major rides are virtually walk-on, giving you more time to focus on what you came to do while still squeezing in a couple of rides without the long lines.
Rides like TRON and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train tend to have longer wait times than most party attractions, often sitting around 30–45 minutes early in the evening. Do not wait longer than 30 minutes for TRON those wait times almost always drop later at night. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train typically will not go below 30 minutes until the very end of the party. We skip it until after the fireworks, and have often walked on in 15 minutes or less, which also gives us time to enjoy the interactive queue most people never get to see.
Halloween Party-Only Food & Snacks
One of my favorite parts of MNSSHP is eating my way through the exclusive Halloween foodie guide Disney releases each year. These treats are designed only for the party and you cannot get them during normal park hours. Think Jack Skellington cake pops, Haunted Mansion “gravedirt” milkshakes, pumpkin-spiced churros, and themed push pops that are almost too cute to eat.
The majority of true “party treats” only become available starting at 7:00 p.m. Once the event officially kicks off, you will see specialty food stands light up across the park. We found this out the hard way when we stalked a cinnamon roll cart at 6:15 p.m., only to be told it was not party-activated yet. If there is a must-try treat on your list (especially things like the popcorn buckets or party-exclusive ice cream sundaes), grab them early because Main Street lines can be long.
Halloween Food Available All Day
In addition to party-only snacks, there are also select seasonal Halloween treats that are sold during regular Magic Kingdom hours. These are great if you want a daytime taste of Halloween without waiting until the evening. You may find items like themed cupcakes at Main Street Bakery, specialty slushes in Tomorrowland, and holiday-decorated candy apples throughout the bakeries.
How to Plan Your Food Strategy
Disney drops an official Halloween Foodie Guide every year showing all the food and drink available specifically for the party. My advice is to pick four to six treats you really want, and consider everything else a bonus. It is nearly impossible to crisscross the park trying to grab everything in one night, especially once you factor in entertainment, characters, trick-or-treating, and rides. Choosing a few “target” items ahead of time means you get your must-dos without stressing about the rest.
Costumes: What to Wear (and What I’ve Learned)
Costumes are half the fun at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party — and it’s one of the only times adults get to dress up at Magic Kingdom, which is honestly half the reason we go. Over the years, we’ve ranged from very chill to extremely committed: one year we just wore matching Mickey Halloween T-shirts, another year we stayed simple with Mouseketeer outfits to survive the heat, and then one year we went all in with full Marvel Avengers costumes that had us sweating (but living our best lives).
Disney’s costume rules are straightforward:
Must be family-friendly with no gore
No full-face masks for anyone over 13
Nothing dragging or weapon-like
What the Weather Is REALLY Like
August and early September party nights are brutally hot and humid, with average highs in the 90s that can feel like 100+ degrees. Full body costumes, wigs, armor, fur, and heavy makeup sound fun in theory… until you are in Tomorrowland melting next to a cauldron of candy. Stick with breathable fabrics and short sleeves — or keep costumes super lightweight.
Late September settles into the mid-80s, and evenings finally start to feel reasonable. This is when we begin seeing more layered looks and bulkier costumes because it isn’t instant heatstroke.
October is the dream. Highs hover in the low 80s, and evenings often drop into the 70s. That is when you can truly pull off the full princess gown, Haunted Mansion ghost suit, or elaborate villain look and actually enjoy yourself in it. Even then — pack backup shorts and cooling towels because collecting candy is cardio.
Comfort is Key
Costumes that look picture-perfect at the start of the night can turn miserable by 10 p.m. while standing in line. Comfort is everything, so I always pack backup clothes for both the kids and myself in case someone gets sticky, sweaty, itchy, or just over it. You can store a change of clothes in lockers at Magic Kingdom, but we usually keep ours tucked in the stroller because we still roll with a stroller for Halloween parties. I have watched families dressed as the entire Pirates of the Caribbean ride complete with light-up treasure chests and salute them. Still, if your costume is heavy or uncomfortable, you are going to be cranky long before midnight. A quick costume swap mid-party has saved us more than once.
Wear What you Have!
You do not have to buy a brand-new costume to look festive at the party. One of the easiest ways to celebrate is to Disney Bound using items you already own. A polka-dot dress and Minnie ears instantly read as Minnie, while black, red and yellow pieces can create a Mickey look without spending a dime. Cute Halloween T-shirts also work beautifully, especially when paired with fun accessories. A set of wings turns an ordinary outfit into a fairy and a pirate hat gives instant attitude without the bulk of a full costume. Simple add-ons like scarves, capes, glasses or headbands are a great way to feel dressed up without overheating in the Florida humidity.
Magic Shot and Memory Maker
Memory Maker is an add on that gives you access to every PhotoPass photo and video taken during your Disney World visit ride pics, magic shots, character dining, and all those unexpected moments Disney photographers snap when you are not even ready. You can grab it for just one day or choose the standard pass, which covers 30 days of photos once activated. It is also included in some hotel or ticket packages, so double check before purchasing.
During the Halloween party, Memory Maker guests get access to exclusive party only Magic Shots, including spooky overlays and character cameos that are not available during regular park hours. These are digitally added to your photos, and the photographers will help you with poses to make the magic work.
Look for PhotoPass photographers throughout the park, especially in these must do locations:
Main Street, USA:
Huey, Dewey and Louie in their trick or treat costumes
Queen’s Poison Apple shot
The Lonesome Ghosts, Fall Tinkerbell, or Yzma
Mickey Jack O Lanterns, Halloween balloons, and Skeleton Dance Magic Shot
Castle hub and Fantasyland:
Stacked pumpkins
Oogie Boogie moon
Sally’s Cauldron
Mickey light trail near Storybook Circus
Pirates of the Caribbean:
Pirate ship in a bottle
Liberty Square and Haunted Mansion:
Hitchhiking Ghosts
Headless Horseman
Zero the ghost dog
Haunted Mansion caretaker plaque
Tomorrowland:
Halloween Town trick or treaters
Even if you skip Memory Maker, you will still want to grab your own party photo mementos:
Pose with the pumpkins on Main Street
Snap the classic castle shot in costume
Do a candy haul photo shoot
Capture a fall themed shot on the steps of the Main Street Railroad Station
Grab a selfie with your favorite character
Take a photo with your event exclusive snack

FAQs for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
Does Lightning Lane work during the party?
No. Lightning Lane is not offered during ticketed after-hours events like MNSSHP since the party has a much lower capacity than a regular park day. The longest attraction waits typically occur between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., before the event officially begins. Once day guests are cleared out, wait times drop significantly. During the final hour of the party, most rides are nearly walk-on.
Can I use DAS (Disability Access Service) at the party?
Yes. If you are already registered for DAS, you can request return times during the party just like you would during normal park hours. You must wait until posted times are active and can only hold one return time at a time. That said, many DAS users find they do not end up needing it because overall wait times are much shorter during party hours.
Is it better to wait until the kids are older to attend this event?
It depends. If your child is under three and free, go for it — they may not remember it, but you will. Once you start paying for their ticket, think about how well they handle long nights. Kindergarteners and older (ages six and up) generally do great if they have a restful morning and afternoon. I have taken my kids at every age; the little ones always tap out early, but when my daughter was seven, she closed down the park with me and it was magical. Because it is an expensive event, I always recommend skipping park time during the day and saving your energy for the party.
Can you see all the shows, parade, and fireworks in one night?
Yes. The party schedule is designed so guests can experience at least one showing of everything. There are usually two parade times, several castle stage shows, and one fireworks performance. Additional dance parties and entertainment in Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, and Frontierland give you plenty to enjoy between the big headliners.
Are discounted tickets available?
Yes. Authorized resellers like UndercoverTourist.com often offer a small savings on party tickets. Disney Vacation Club Members and Annual Passholders may also receive approximately $10 off select party dates (usually August and early September). Military families can purchase slightly discounted tickets through Shades of Green.
Is PhotoPass included during the party?
PhotoPass photographers are available throughout the party offering special party-exclusive magic shots and overlays. PhotoPass is not automatically included with your party ticket unless you already have Memory Maker or PhotoPass entitlement on your account. You can still purchase individual photos or Memory Maker One Day if you want to keep all your party photos.
